Rama Mandira

Long ago, in the year 1935, in a small village Kallur within Gubbi taluk limits of Tumkur district, a few ardent lads under the religious guidance and leadership of Sri. K. Satyanarayana Jois and Sri. K. S. Lakshminarayana Rao (Shamannayya) formed Sri Baala Raama Seva Forum. They started celebrating the auspicious occasion of Sri Ramanavami and Sri Ramotsava in Vaishaakha Maasa every year. Sri. K. Venkatanarayanappa, Sri K.V. Venkatasubba Jois recited Mahabharatha, Ramayana, and other holy scriptures during Sri Ramotsava. Many talents in and around the village served Lord Rama by their renditions in music, dance, play and other art forms.

It was one fine day, the elderly of the village felt the need of constructing a temple, precisely Sri Rama Mandira. Friends and funds starting pouring in for the gracious cause and a small temple with three rooms and a hall was planned. On digging the land for laying the foundation of the sanctum(Garbha Gudi), the Lord was witnessed in the form of 14 Saaligramas, Sri Venkateshwara, Sri Maruthi, Sri Annapoorneshwari and a Nakshatra Maala with other things used for Lord's worship. This very much proved the presence of Lord and His will to dwell in Kallur, and hence the temple soon raised. It was with the blessings and spritual guidance of His Holiness Sri Sri Sridharananda Swamiji of Hebbur Kodandashrama, His Holiness Sri Sri Chidambara Swamiji of Gubbi Sri Chidambarashrama, regular Pooja and other service to the Lord began in Kallur.

Meanwhile, the then Bangalore's famous merchant, an ardent devotee of Lord Sri Rama, Sri R. P. Muniswamappa and his wife once got a dream in which the Lord Himself appeared and guided the couple about His presence in Kallur. The couple immediately found the village and understood the need of an idol of the Lord for the temple. With appropriate contacts, Sri Muniswamappa could get the beautiful idol of Sri Kodanda Rama, Seetha Maatha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya done in pure white marble from sculptor Sri Ramlal Dhanlal Nanda and team in Varanasi. It was in 1958, Marghashira, Shukla Ekadashi, on the day of Geetha Jayanthi the idol was established in the temple. The Gopura Kumbhabhisheka was done by the then Maharaja of Mysore Dynasty, His Highness Sri Jayachamarajendra Odeyar in 1965. The entire village of Kallur seemed like Ayodhya groomed for Sri Rama Pattaabhisheka with celebrations all over. The Maharaja was mesmirized by the Lord here and praised stating He had not seen such a masterpiece and divine form of Lord Rama anywhere. From that day in 1935, till date the Lord is constantly served by many believers all over the world.

Benovalently in the name of Lord Sri Rama, the needy of the society are served to get education, food and other basic needs.
